Zoe Setchell Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Zoe Setchell was born on September 2, 2007, and grew up in Yorkville, where she spent her childhood surrounded by family, friends, and a close-knit community that helped shape who she became. A 2025 graduate of Yorkville High School, Zoe was known for her confidence, warmth, and unmistakable presence. She approached life with determination, humor, and a genuine care for others. These qualities defined both her character and her aspirations.

From a young age, Zoe demonstrated discipline and perseverance. She earned her black belt in Taekwondo, an early sign of her strength and commitment. As she grew older, she discovered a love for softball and spent several meaningful years playing with the Newark Redhawks. Through the sport, Zoe built lifelong friendships and developed a deep respect for teamwork, leadership, and mentorship. Outside of athletics, Zoe had a lifelong love for animals, a passion that reflected her compassionate nature and desire to care for others.
Zoe carried herself with a quiet confidence and a unique sense of style that made her effortlessly memorable. Her radiant smile, sharp wit, and natural comedic charm had a way of putting people at ease. More than anything, Zoe was kind. She cared deeply for her family and those around her, and she had a rare ability to make others feel seen, valued, and supported.

After graduating high school, Zoe had just begun her first semester at Waubonsee Community College, taking her first steps toward a lifelong dream of attending the University of Illinois at Chicago and becoming a nurse anesthetist. Her goal reflected not only her academic ambition but her deep desire to help others during their most vulnerable moments. Nursing represented everything Zoe stood for: compassion, resilience, and service.

Tragically, Zoe passed away on January 9, 2026, as a result of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. While her life was far too short, her impact was profound and enduring.

The Zoe Setchell Memorial Nursing Scholarship was established to carry forward Zoe’s dream and spirit. The scholarship supports graduating seniors from Yorkville High School who plan to attend Waubonsee Community College and pursue a career in nursing. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is April 7, 2027.

Through this scholarship, Zoe’s compassion, determination, and light live on—supporting future nurses who share her desire to care for others and make a meaningful difference in the world.
