Rosario Ramos Villacin, M.D., Memorial Scholarship
The Rosario Ramos Villacin, M.D., Memorial Scholarship is open to new students who are enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. Preference will be given to students who plan to enroll full-time, who plan to pursue a career in a health care field, who are first-generation college students, and/or who have overcome significant obstacles to pursue their academic goals. This scholarship is established by Dr. Anthony Ramos in memory of his mother, Rosario Villacin. A pediatrician in Philippines, Dr. Villacin immigrated to the U.S. in 1974. Unable to practice medicine, she worked for over 25 years as an transfusion therapy technician at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where she was also the recipient of a kidney transplant in 1991. She was proud, strong willed, and had a witty sense of humor. She was frequently described as a “sweet lady” by the countless health care professionals that tended to her care during a lengthy battle with alzheimer’s disease. This scholarship is a refundable credit award. It will first be used toward past due tuition. Any remaining funds will be available for fall semester tuition, fees, or books or a refund may be requested from the Student Accounts and Cashier Office.
