Forty and Eight Nursing Scholarship

The Forty and Eight Nursing Scholarship is open to returning students who have a minimum 2.5 GPA, are Kane or Kendall County residents, and are nursing majors. There is a preference to veterans or children of veterans (must submit copy of DD214). Waubonsee Community College nursing candidates are privileged to be the recipients of this award with origins in the Forty and Eight, which is an honor society of the American Legion. These WWI fighting units were transported to the French front in boxcars that could carry either forty men or eight horses. Since the organization’s founding in 1920, its members have provided assistance to students in the human service fields, including nursing. The local group of Forty and Eight, known as Voiture 592, established this award in 1991. This scholarship may only be used toward the purchase of required books for credit courses through the Waubonsee Bookstore. It will not be applied toward tuition or fees.
