Anita and Richard "Shorty" Dickson Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Anita and Richard “Shorty” Dickson Memorial Endowed Scholarship is open to students who are Kendall County residents. These scholarships are given in memory of Richard “Shorty” Dickson, Board of Trustees Chair Emeritus, and Anita Dickson, his wife. Mr. Dickson served 45 years on Waubonsee Community College’s Board of Trustees, from 1972 until 1987, and then again from 1989 until 2019. During his time of service to the college, Dickson helped guide it from its rural beginning to serving as one of Illinois’ largest and most diverse population centers. In 1987, the College Center on the Sugar Grove Campus was named Dickson Center in honor of his service to the college. In 2019, Dickson was also recognized by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association with the “45-Year Trustee Service Award” designation in recognition of his service to Waubonsee. He and a colleague from College of Lake County were the first in the state to earn that distinction. He retired from the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees in 2019. The scholarship may cover all or part of tuition and required course fees and may also provide support for required books for credit courses.
